Penang: Kek Lok Si
Just like FGS Dong Zen temple, Kek Lok Si temple in Penang is having CNY lantern festival until Chap Goh Meh. The temple is lighted up and it lives up Ayer Itam town and spices up chinese new year feel at night.
According to the schedule, the temple will be closed for public at 11 pm. Hence, we didn't took the inclined lift to further uphill to visit the Kuan Yin statue due to time constraint. We just walked around and visited a few shrine halls. Red tanglungs hanging on blue branches make it looks like an illuminated tree.
Light offerings on pineapple-shaped candle by the devotees.
A devotee throwing a coin into an alms bowl.
The Buddha and his attendants with kids posing in front.
Pagoda with lots of miniature Buddhas inside.
Another view of main pagoda with rows of lanterns and Buddha statues.
If you miss it this year, you can always visit it next year. The surrounding of huge Kuan Yin which is still in construction stage should be completed by next year.
Happy Thaipusam and Happy Chap Goh Meh!
