Penang Part 1
As usual, I dropped by Penang before balik kampung for Chinese New Year. This time round, it's nice to have mingyih picked me up at the airport and brought me around the Pearl of Orient island. We parked the car at Prangin Mall since weiliang and his gf would shop there and it's easier for us to meet him up later.
While waiting for him to come, we decided to pay a visit to the famous cendol shop at Penang Road which was just a stone's throw away from Komtar. Both of us were clueless on the exact location of that cendol stall. Unfortunate enough, this Penang food guidebook was left inside the car. Hereby, we started our jalan-jalan cari cendol quest.
Under the hot sun, we careered down a few streets with old shops alongside to look for that stall. In the meantime, she called up her friend to ask for the direction. We stumbled upon a few food stalls after moving around in this LOST island for some time. We took peanut soup dessert, fried popiah, lobak and fried prawn cake to fulfill the rumbling stomach first.
The quest continued. After plenty of sweat shed, we finally found it. Introducing Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul and Ice Kacang. It's located at Lebuh Keng Kwee. There's another cendol stall right opposite to this stall and the business between these two rivals were very obvious.
I think it's the tradition for the customer to eat the cendol, standing because it's inappropriate to allocate tables and chairs at the lorong. There's a kopitiam next to this stall, but in order to eat inside, the customer has to order any food from that kopitiam else an amount of charge will be applied. We walked to the owner's shop nearby. A lot of food reviews and pictures were hung on the wall, including Phua Chu Kang's photos.
This was the cendol I ordered. It had strong coconut milk taste at my first bite until the shave ice cum brown sugar melted and the color turned brown. It's nice but I still prefer Malacca's cendol with gula melaka.
We also ate rojak. So so nia this one. The rojak kuah was a little bit spicy for me.
After this, we headed back to Prangin Mall and met up with weiliang. Where's our next destination? To be continued...
P/s: The strike is about to over and more TV series will be back in April/May.
